Washington, D.C. and Rancho Cordova, Calif., June 26, 2009 – VSP GlobalSM today introduced the Healthcare Technology Program, an exclusive offering for VSP doctors through Eyefinity®/OfficeMate®which provides ExamWRITER® electronic medical records (EMRs) at no initial software license charge for existing OfficeMate® or OfficeMate Enterprise® users, or the OfficeMate Suite or OfficeMate Enterprise with ExamWRITER for first time users at no initial software license charge.*
Available through September 30th, 2009, the Healthcare Technology Program helps position VSP doctors to seek federal incentive payments through the HITECH ACT, which encourages the adoption of EMRs throughout the healthcare continuum, including eyecare. VSP doctors can take part in this risk-free offer and are only responsible to pay for the software license if they receive federal incentive payments beginning in 2011.
The launch of the Healthcare Technology Program coincides with the announcement of VSP Global as the enterprise brand for VSP’s family of companies.
“VSP Global is committed to sharing the vision of private practice eye doctors and developing unique programs to strengthen their ability to deliver the highest quality eyecare,” said VSP Global CEO Rob Lynch. “The Healthcare Technology Program helps ensure VSP doctors have access to advanced practice management solutions that will allow them to adapt to and excel in the changing health information technology landscape, including the use of electronic medical records.”
“The Healthcare Technology Program gives VSP doctors an opportunity to stay ahead of the health information technology curve,” said Eyefinity/OfficeMate President Jim McGrann. “ExamWRITER’s integrated e-prescribing function and the Physician Quality Reporting Initiative (PQRI) function it shares with OfficeMate are critical elements of health information technology which will help position eyecare professionals to take advantage of the federal stimulus money available to them.”
The HITECH Act, a health information technology component of the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act, signed by President Barack Obama in February of 2009, has appropriated $19.2 billion in federal stimulus funds to accelerate the adoption of certified EMRs. Physicians who demonstrate “meaningful use” (policy makers are currently working to define this term) of certified EMRs can qualify for up to $64,000 in incentive payments through Medicare and Medicaid.
*Other fees apply, including “Annual Support and Maintenance Agreement” (ASMA), data conversion, and onsite training
